Ingredients
When it comes to breakfast sandwiches, you can add a variety of toppings and sauces, but that’s not a great idea for easy camping meals.
To keep things simple, I stick to really good basic ingredients, especially grated apple (my secret ingredient).
Here’s a breakdown of what I prepared for these Apple Maple Sausage Breakfast Sandwiches:
For the Sausage Patties:
- 1 apple
- 1 lemon
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon dried sage
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
For the Sandwiches:
- 8 slices Swiss cheese
- 8 English muffins
- 8 eggs
- Butter, for serving
Note: This is the amount of ingredients I prepared for 8 sandwiches. Depending on the number of cakes you want to make, you can increase and decrease the ingredients accordingly.
Equipment
We always make Sausage Patties at home to save time at the campground. Therefore, all I need to bring for this dish is a griddle or a pan to cook sausages, bread and eggs. Very convenient, isn’t it?

Here are detailed instructions on how I make Apple Maple Sausage Breakfast Sandwiches for a super quick and easy camping breakfast.
At Home
First, coarsely grate the apples with a box grater into a medium bowl. Add the juice of one lemon and enough cold water to cover the apples. Soak for about 5 minutes, then remove and squeeze out excess water.
Return the grated apples to the bowl and mix with the ground pork, maple syrup, spices, herbs and salt. Mix until you make sure they are completely combined. Divide mixture into 8 portions and shape each portion into thin meatballs about ¼ inch thick and 4 inches wide. If prepared in advance, store the meatballs in an airtight container with oil absorbent paper placed between the pieces.
At Camping
Heat the grill or frying pan over medium heat and cook the sausage meatballs for 2–3 minutes on each side, until nicely browned and cooked through. While you wait for the sausage to cook, you can fry eggs and toast English muffins.
Before assembly, butter the toasted muffins, layer the sausage meatballs, top with a fried egg, and top with a slice of creamy Swiss cheese.
That’s it! Enjoy a delicious breakfast cooked by yourself!
Notes
For added convenience, you should make sausage patties at home before your trip. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator at 40ºF or lower for up to two days. Besides, you can freeze the patties after forming them for two months.
Once defrosted in the refrigerator, be sure to cook them within a day or two. This way, you’ll have delicious homemade sausages ready to go without much effort at camp! 🥓❄️
