Equipment
A convenient dish cooked with a surprisingly simple device, all you need is a Wire grill basket. We found a campfire grill basket made an immediate difference in the flavor of the dish. It opens like a clamshell and has a long metal handle, making it easy to use.
Place the fish inside, close it and put it on the fire. And then, the step that people often found difficult, flipping the fish, is now easy for us. You can do it too, keeping the fish intact, not sticking and giving you an evenly cooked dish with the perfect smoky flavor.
How to Cook Fish Tacos
Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 20 minutes |
You don’t have to deep fry to make delicious Fish Tacos, as this recipe is a great way to serve white fish fillets by grilling the fish.
Quick steps:
Step 1: Prepare the fire
Light a campfire or grill and heat to medium-high, being careful with the flames.
Step 2: Season the fish
Drizzle olive oil over the fish fillets, squeeze half a lemon over the fish, and season both sides with chili powder, cumin, and salt. Set aside, you’ll use it later.
Step 3: Grill the vegetables
Place the corn and jalapeno directly on the grill. Grill for about 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is tender and slightly charred, it will be delicious. Gently remove vegetables from the grill and let them cool slowly.
Step 4: Cook the fish
Place the seasoned fish in a wire mesh grill basket and grill for about 3 minutes on one side. When the fish is cooked, turn it over and wait another 2 minutes. Remove fish from heat and let stand for a few minutes.
Step 5: Make the salsa
- Peel the corn kernels off the cob, to save time do this while the fish is cooking.
- Peel the burnt skin off the jalapeno peppers, then chop them finely and if you don’t like spicy food, I recommend removing the seeds to reduce the spiciness.
- The chopped onion and cilantro will add a delicious flavor to this dish.
- Mix all prepared ingredients in a bowl, squeeze more lemon juice and season with salt to taste, depending on your taste.
Step 6: Prepare the Tacos
Heat the tortillas and layer them with grilled fish, corn sauce and sliced avocado.
Step 7: Serve
Don’t forget the Kettle Chips, which when combined will give your dish a crunchy texture. Now it’s time to enjoy your culinary creations.
Creative Alternatives for Fish Tacos
We’ve got all the tips you need to make the best Fish Tacos ever:
- All of the toppings for these tacos are completely customizable. My favorites include onions, corn, and avocado, but you can get creative with what you have on hand.
- For a different flavor, try your favorite sauce instead of the one I suggest in the recipe. Sometimes I even use yogurt diluted with milk instead of mayonnaise when needed.
- You can substitute any fish you like, any soft white fish like flounder, tilapia, or cod. It doesn’t matter if you don’t want to eat fish, shrimp is another option you can try for this dish.
- As for cooking, instead of grilling the fish like I recommend, you can also pan fry it. Use whatever method works best for you.
