How to Make Grilled Corn
Prep Time: 2 minutes | Cook Time: 20 minutes |
There are many ways to grill corn, but these are the two simplest, each with its own flavor and texture. You can try both.
Grilled with Corn Husks
Grilling corn in the husk will give you super juicy, golden kernels.
- Prepare the corn: Gently peel off the husks and remove the silk, leaving the husks for grilling.
- Soak the corn: Place the corn in a bowl or a pot filled with water and soak for at least 15 minutes or even overnight if you are not in a hurry to eat this dish.
- Grill the corn: Remove the corn from the water and shake off excess water. Place the corn on a hot grill and grill for 15-20 minutes, turning the corn occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- Serve and enjoy: You can remove the corn from the grill when it reaches your desired doneness. Remove the corn husks and serve with butter, sprinkled with salt and pepper to taste.
Grilling without Corn Husks
Grilling corn without the husk will give you a more charred, smoky flavor.
- Prepare the corn: In this way, you remove the husks and silks from the corn. Brush each ear of corn with olive oil to keep it moist and enhance its flavor.
- Grill the corn: Place the corn directly on the grill. The grilling time will be shorter, only 10-15 minutes, occasionally turning, until you see nice grill marks, even a little bit of char.
- Serve and enjoy: Remove the corn from the grill and serve hot with the prepared spices, a simple meal.
Notes for Grilled Corn
Cooking Grilled Corn is very simple but I still have some notes for you.
Choosing Corn
To choose a good ear of corn, look for ears with bright green husks and slightly sticky golden brown silks, as these indicate that the corn is still fresh.
If possible, peel back the husks of one or two ears of corn to check for plump, shiny kernels, which are good corn.
Don’t Overcook
Overcooking corn can result in mushy corn instead of tender and juicy. To avoid this, check the corn frequently while it’s cooking.
Keynote: You should use a super hot oven. The high temperature allows you to achieve a great sear in less time, keeping the corn juicy and flavorful.
Dishes Paired with Grilled Corn
- Corn and shrimp are a delicious combination! Put some shrimp skewers on the grill with the corn to save cooking time.
- Cilantro lemon chicken skewers go great with corn and I love this combination the most.
- Grilled corn is the perfect side dish for a summer BBQ, you can try it too.
- You can also serve it with vegetarian dishes like veggie burgers, black bean burgers and veggie sausages along with other classic sides like salad and broccoli.
