Kielbasa Potato Foil Packets are one of the best easy camping meals because I don’t need to worry about how to pack them on the way. This recipe can be made using only a few ingredients, and with a little effort, you can cook tasty and healthy meals while camping.
Besides, this dish can be eaten on its own; it does not need any other side dish to complement it; it is good enough to be taken on camps and is very convenient to prepare when you are traveling.

Main Ingredients
These ingredients are used for 4 servings. If you wish to increase the serving size, you can use the ingredients in the ratio as I have specified above.
- 400g kielbasa
- 680g baby red potatoes
- 1 onion
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 4 tablespoons spicy mustard
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- 4 tablespoons butter
- Parsley, chopped
Essential Equipment
There are three tools I have found incredibly useful:
- Aluminum Foil: This is suitable for use in foil packet dishes. First, it is very durable; second, it does not melt at high temperatures; and third, it does not rip when you slide gloves or tongs across its surface.
- Heat Resistant Gloves: These are perfect for use around the campfire or when using the grill on a barbecue occasion. They help make the job a lot safer and less complicated.
- Outdoor Grill (optional): An outdoor grill is an all-rounder, which guarantees delicious meals, regardless of the place you are in. It can be used at the campsite in the middle of a forest or at the backyard and gives a dependent heat source for your cooking. However, you can bake Kielbasa Potato Foil Packets if you want.

If you are ready to cook Kielbasa Potato Foil Packets, I will give you the most detailed instructions along with some necessary notes in the process of completing this dish!
Step-by-Step Instructions
To make cooking at the campsite more convenient and cleaner, there are some steps I usually prepare in advance at home.
At Home
Step 1: Prepare the sauce
To be more convenient, I tend to prepare the sauce at home. Combine the spicy mustard, honey, and apple cider vinegar in a small container, ready to bring with you on your camping trip.
Step 2: Pre-process main ingredients
Cut the Kielbasa sausages, onions, and baby red potatoes into bite-sized pieces for a fork and store them in a container to take with you.
Note: In my experience, you should cut the sausage and potatoes into the same size.
At Campsite
Step 3: Next, lay out a couple of pieces of aluminum foil and lightly spray them with cooking spray. Place the chopped potatoes, sliced onion, and kielbasa on top. After that, sprinkle the salt, garlic powder, and paprika on the mixture. Pour sauce into packets and drizzle a tablespoon of butter over each packet. Tightly seal the foil after folding it over the ingredients.
Note: Ensure you use large sheets of foil. You’ll need plenty of space for the ingredients and extra for folding and sealing. I used to cut the foil so small that the mixture inside spilled out.
Step 4: Put the foil packets on the grill with the seam side towards the bottom and gril for 10 minutes. Flip them over and put them back in the oven to cook for 8–10 minutes more. Occasionally shake it so that the sausage and potato would not stick together and at the bottom of the packet.
Step 5: Once they’re done grilling, carefully remove them from the heat and let them cool for a minute. Then you can open the foil and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley.
Note: You need to be careful when opening the foil because steam will accumulate inside the packet during cooking. I don’t want you to burn yourself while enjoying this dish!
Recipe Variation
To be honest, you can add whichever vegetables you desire! When cooked in foil, bell peppers, mushrooms, green beans, and zucchini are delicious. Moreover, you can also add more tastes, including Cajun seasoning, dried Italian seasoning, or even a red pepper trail.
